SIC (US 1987) : On October 1, 1964, my father, Marvin Akerly and his partner, Francis Bithel, launched operations of Erie Hard Chrome, Inc. in a tiny 1000-square-foot building. They had one goal in mind: produce the best possible industrial plating job every time.
Today, as always, Erie Hard Chrome stands by that goal of industrial plating quality, and it has paid off. Our customers have spread the word that Erie Hard Chrome's reputation is synonymous with quality. We're proud of that.
In 1968, Erie Hard Chrome built an 8000-square-foot industrial plating facility at our current location on East 12th Street in Erie, Pennsylvania. The acquisition of this 1-1/2-acre site was just the first of several developments and renovations aimed at meeting the needs of our growing industrial plating clientele.
In the mid-1970s, doubling our building space allowed us to annex a completely new industrial grinding services area. By the end of the decade, our physical plant size had tripled, and we had refined our glass bead, sandblasting, honing, and pickling facilities.
Our customer base continued to grow. In the 1980s, we broadened our industrial plating operations to include the Marvalloy process. We also added electroless nickel plating to our line of services, completely renovating our industrial plating facilities for this process in 1998.
Environmentally sound, meeting all DEP and EPA standards, Erie Hard Chrome now boasts one of the largest, most efficient hard chrome and electroless nickel plating facilities in the Eastern United States. Specializing in hard chrome plating of molds for the auto industry as well as providing an ever-expanding array of specialized applications for diverse industries, we continue to look for ways to meet the needs of our customers.
As we grow, so does the territory we serve. Our distinction as a premier supplier of chrome and nickel plating products and services has brought us customers from across the nation and from Canada. We offer pick-up and delivery services spanning a tri-state area. And, our commitment continues.
As we celebrate our 50th year of industrial plating service, I reaffirm that commitment. Joined by my daughter, Courtney Akerly, our master chrome and nickel platers, and other expert personnel, we assure you that Erie Hard Chrome will continue to provide the best the industrial plating industry has to offer.
